
The Riyadha mosque and his madrasa were built by the scholar and Sufi Habib Swaleh bin Alawy (1853–1935), who lived in Lamu (today in Kenya ). He left a lasting impression on Islam in Lamu and throughout East Africa with his teachings and influence.
He improved the Prophet Muhammad’s birthday commemoration, laying the groundwork for Lamu’s renowned Mawlid event, which attracts Muslims from all over the world. He is alos the Founder of Riyadh Islamic center and Mosque in Lamu.
