The Yunus Emre mosque is a Turkish mosque in the Genk district of Sledderlo, located at Wintergroenstraat 61, designed by architect Guido Walgrave. The mosque belongs to the Turkish Diyanet. The Turkish Mosque Association started its activities in Sledderlo in 1982. The meetings initially took place in an emergency building, and construction of a definitive mosque began in 1996, which was completed in 2002. The mosque has a central prayer room with an area of 1185 m2. There is a dome and a minaret. The mosque is surrounded by a number of spaces that are used for social activities, among other things. The mosque is named after the poet Yunus Emre, one of Turkey ‘s most important Sufi poets.
