_Ton Son Mosque

Information

Ton Son Mosque or Kudi Bangkok Yai Also known as Kudi Yai for short , is the oldest Sunni mosque in Bangkok It is estimated that it is a mosque that began in the early days. King Songtham (1610–2171 BC) during the Ayutthaya period.

Name of Bangkok Yai or that big because the mosque is located at the mouth Bangkok Yai Canal As for the name of the Pine Mosque Obtained from the newly planted pair of pines in the reign of King Rama III in front of the wall after the completion of the construction of a new building. Therefore, the name was later called.

It was originally a teak house raised on a platform and roofed with terracotta tiles. The form of the architecture is similar to the hall in Buddhist monasteries. Worshippers in the Bangkok Yai area renovated it and changed the old structure to brick building during the reign of King Rama II. In 1952, the new building was transformed into a reinforced concrete building since the former architecture was too old to rebuilt. The twin pine tree (Ton Son) was planted in front of the gate of the mosque’s wall since the reign of King Rama III. And the name was officially changed to Ton Son Mosque.
