Muslims arrived in the city of Jundiai in the mid 1970s. The mosque began to be built in the late 1980s, and was inaugurated in 1990.
The mosque, unlike other Brazilian mosques, was designed according to brutalist principles – such as the use of exposed concrete and the absence of ornamentation on the facades. The interior of the mosque is extremely decorated with colourful mosaics, and the walls are adorned with texts from the Koran. It also has an imposing crystal chandelier in the center of the main dome.
