Cheng Hoo Mosque Surabaya is a mosque with a Chinese Muslim nuance which is located not far from the Surabaya City Hall Building, precisely on Jalan Gading, Ketabang, Genteng, Surabaya.
This mosque was founded on the initiative of elders, advisors, administrators of the Indonesian Chinese Islamic Association (PITI), administrators of the Haji Muhammad Cheng Hoo Indonesia Foundation in East Java and Chinese community leaders.
The mosque, which is also known as the Muhammad Cheng Hoo Mosque in Surabaya, was built to coincide with the Isra’ Miraj of the Prophet Muhammad.
The mosque was built with a combination of architectural elements from China, Malay, and Indonesian archipelago, complete with certain parts of the mosque such as imam’s residence and surrounding fences.
Cheng Ho Mosque is considered a testament to cultural diversity and room for expressing those identities—Chinese and Islamic—in the context of Indonesian society.
