The Mosque is located in a residential neighbourhood in the city of Barretos, Brazil. The Barretos Mosque was built in the 1960s and is the first to be built in the interior of SĂŁo Paulo.
The building has a centralized ground plan with a dome. The volumetry of the building is box-like, with a single  minaret, and a setback in the façade for the main access. The façades are light-coloured, decorated with mosaics on the lower part and battlements on the upper part. The mosque is the only one in Brazil built following Moorish and Andalusian architectural models (referring to the part of Spain that during the Middle Ages was under the jurisdiction of Arab peoples from North Africa), and this makes it a beautiful place and one of the most beautiful mosques in Brazil.
