The Melbourne Grand Mosque, located about 25 kilometres west of the CBD in Tarneit, will serve a burgeoning multicultural community that has attracted to the outer-suburban growth corridor. Paddocks in the Wyndham council have been turned into new suburbs that are beginning to establish their own distinct identity in less than a decade.

Melbourne Grand Mosque is part of Werribee Islamic Centre, a larger facility which includes WIC Community Centre, Food and Kitchen Services, Janaza Services, Library and Classrooms, Islamic Counselling services, Early childhood service centre, WIC Sports Centre, and parking facilities. The architecture of the mosque is sober with pointed arches on the facades. Islamic calligraphy patterns are cut through on metal and used to decorate different parts of the interior spaces. The arches are multiplied across the façade, with varying shapes, and give it a unique architectural character. The façade is constructed using prefabricated concrete panels.

The facilities are geared at bringing people together to foster harmony and strong citizenship, development of knowledge and skills in an ethically structured manner. Also aimed at being a bridge to all faith and non-faith communities, institutions, groups where discussions and dialogue are regularly held to maintain and improve relationships. Subject matter experts would be regular in delivering presentations for the community’s benefit. The youth are particularly expected to benefit as they would have a place to interact with their peers with sport and recreation among all of the other facilities giving them a great prop to become upstanding and productive.
