At-Taqwa Mosque is the centre of religious activities for local Muslims. Some Muslims also call it the Kampong Mosque.
Because Muslims in the Island are dominated by ethnic Malays, the shape of the mosque is very similar to mosques in Indonesia. The roof is not dome-shaped by conical. The mosque is very simple with standard size. There is a tower with a unique shape that could be seen from a distance. Shady coconut trees green the environment around the mosque. Panorama of the sea can be seen from the mosque. As a result, although not magnificent, the mosque is well-present in the landscape.
