Amirul Mukminin Mosque is one of the icons of Makassar City. This mosque is unique because its main building is above sea level, this is also what makes it called the “Floating Mosque”. This floating mosque is located in the Losari Beach area, about 1 kilometer from the Losari Beach Platform. The grandeur and uniqueness of the mosque building makes it not only a place of worship for Muslims, but also a tourist attraction.
The magnificent building with a dominant combination of grey and blue colours makes it look elegant, especially at night. The light from the mosque building in the middle of the darkness of the night adds to the aesthetics of the mosque building. Two towering minarets with twin domes of diameter of 9 meters also add to the elegance of the mosque.
In terms of interior, Amirul Mukminin Mosque has three floors. The ground floor is for male worshipers, the second floor is for female worshipers and the third floor is for people who will pray sunnah alone. The ablution place for men is in the south, and women in the north.
The interior is decorated with many round white hanging lamps that add to the beauty of the mosque’s interior. Not only enjoying the beauty of the interior, visitors to the mosque can also feel the sensation of the sea breeze inside the mosque.
The 1,683 square meter mosque is supported by 164 piles making it stand firmly on the sea surface of Losari Beach. When the sea water rises, hundreds of piles will be covered by sea water and give the impression of a mosque that is truly floating.
