Istana Diraja Mosque (Istana Alam Shah Mosque)

The Istana Diraja Mosque is located in the Istana Alam Shah area, KlangThe cost is RM9 million, which was inspired and fully funded by the Sultan of SelangorThis mosque is part of Istana Alam Shah.

Linked by a bridge at the side of the palace building, the mosque is set in a rectangular projection, over three-storeys. It is noted for its pointed light-weight glass fibre ribbed patterned dome with a tapered pinnacle and a 36 meter-tiered minaret.

Inspired by the many mosques in Cairo, Egypt, which is famously known as the City of Minarets, the mosque’s design was based on an initial idea of the sultan where he noticed that chapels are commonly located close to many palaces.

The mosque covers an area of ​​2,159.9 square meters on the site of Balai Musolla and Balai Nobat, Istana Alam Shah. There is space for weddings and weddings. The three-storey mosque has a design featuring old mosques in CairoEgypt . A 36-meter tower was built and four gates, with its main gate overlooking Istana Alam Shah decorated with handcrafted tiles from Turkey, personally chosen by the Sultan of Selangor.

The mosque is designed as an open mosque because most of the interior space is not walled to increase ventilation while reducing the use of air conditioners.
