_New Gourna Village Mosque

Information

Designed by the Egyptian architect Hassan Fathy as a part of his design of the new Gourna village, a large mosque was built at the entrance to the village that carried the most beautiful architectural inscriptions in its design. Fathy was influenced by the Tulunid architectural art mixed with Islamic art in the era of the Fatimid.

The construction of the whole village was done with mud bricks in ways appropriate to the real environment in which they lived in ancient Egypt, with the organization of openings and construction methods that provide good and comfortable ventilation for the citizens without the need for fans or lighting sources at the time. During the construction of the New Qurna village, architect Hassan Fathy was influenced by Islamic heritage and Nubian civilization. He designed the city in the “domes” style.
