The mosque is located in the city of Chui in the extreme south of Brazil, on the border with Uruguay. The construction started in 2007 and completed in 2021. The mosque’s facilities will not only be a place of prayer, but also a meeting place to teach Islam and link other believers, including Catholics or other religious congregations.
One of the main features of the mosque is the half-egg-shaped dome that protrudes from the roof and has a height of 19 meters. It also consists of a prayer hall in which is the mihrab , a minaret (tower from which the faithful are called to prayer) and a fountain for ablutions or purifications.
The mosque’s main hall has an area of 520 m2 and the building has dozens of doors, each 4.5 meters high and weighing 250 kilograms, and is set on an entire city block, with parking spaces for vehicles. The mosque can accommodate up to 150 worshippers in the main prayer hall. It is divided into two floors where the ground floor is for male patrons and the upper floor is for female. It consists of a minaret and a dome that has an outer height of 19m.
