According to the historical records, Barnaul hosted an old mosque and a madrasa, which were completely ruined. The mosque began to be built in the late 1990s. Since August 2000, regular prayers have been held in the mosque. Currently, the building is conditionally divided into an old and a new part as in 2012, a new section with a 5-meter dome and two 25-meter minarets were added to the new large building.Â
The interiors of the Barnaul Cathedral Mosque are designed in the traditional oriental style. The buildings are interconnected by a small passage-gallery. Nearby is a two-story administrative building and a room for ablutions.
