Atia Mosque, also known as Atiya Jame Mosque, is an ancient mosque located in Tangail district, Bangladesh. Built during the Mughal period, it is renowned for its architectural beauty and historical significance. The mosque features intricate terracotta decorations on its walls, depicting floral motifs, geometric patterns, and scenes from everyday life, reflecting the craftsmanship of that era. The structure includes a central prayer hall with several domes and minarets, showcasing traditional Islamic architecture prevalent during the Mughal reign in Bengal.
The arches of the Atiya Mosque are quadrangular in style. There are three ornate mihrabs on the wall of the Qibla. The four corners of the mosque have octagonal towers (minarets) divided into parallel moulding designs. The side towers, ornamented by several levels of raised design, rise to the top of the roof cornice. At the end of all the towers are small domes with ornaments and decorated with flat fluted cupolas with lotus and kalasa finials.
The Atia Mosque was damaged in the earthquake of 1800 and was rebuilt in 1837 and 1909. The ten taka note printed by Bangladesh Bank has a picture of Atiya Mosque on one side.
