The Arcapita Mosque is located within Arcapita Headquarters, a prominent location combined with innovative sculptural form gives the Arcapita Headquarters a significant presence in Bahrain Bay, a waterfront development planned by SOM and now under construction in Manama, the capital of Bahrain.

Situated in the landscape adjacent to Arcapita Headquarters, the Arcapita mosque is a two-level, stone-clad cube structure that has been awarded for excellence in design, engineering, and construction. The 750 m2 mosque allows for 100 men on the main level and 30 women on the mezzanine level to attend the prayer. Its distinctive triangular windows and a perimeter skylight illuminate solemn interior spaces for prayer and reflection. The building also includes ablution rooms and an open courtyard facing Mecca with a 50m tall minaret.

The headquarters building and mosque have direct access to the water, the island’s main boulevard, and a sizable park. The design of the mosque was taken from the strength of the cubical form. Also It was designed to be a sustainable building that has balance in the heat and light by using local stones in a solid shape with 50 indirect windows that allow the light to enter the building with minimum heat.

Arcapita Mosque has won 2017 Abdullatif Al Fozan Award for Mosque Architecture. The award honoured the innovative design of Arcapita Mosque and celebrates SOM’s project as a contemporary approach to Islamic architecture.
