_Al-Serkal Mosque

Information

The Al-Serkal Mosque is the main mosque in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia. It was a gift from Al-Serkal Family, United Arab Emirates and opened in 1968. A new building,  gift of the United Arab Emirates, has replaced the original mosque, it opened in 2014.

Al-Serkal is considered the biggest mosques in the majority Buddhist country. The walls inside the two-story Ottoman-style mosque are lined with rose and turquoise tiles, the ceramics commissioned from Algerian artisans. Its ceilings are decorated with mosaics, and a chandelier hangs from the central dome.
