Al-Khabra Mosque is one of the two mosques located in Al-Khabra Historical Village, an urban heritage sites in Riyadh al-Khabra Governorate, Saudi Arabia. The mosque was constructed in 1700.
The mosque’s main prayer hall is supported by circular stone columns using vernacular construction materials. The Mosque has a distinctive local vernacular heritage structure with an basement, known as Khalwa or seclusion. It has a tall minaret narrowing upward to a cone with a height of 10, more than double the height of the Mosque’s rectangular prayer hall (3.60 m). Local building materials were used in construction including wood and adobe bricks (manufactured using sun-dried mud, water and straw or grass). These distinctive building materials are characteristic of local vernacular techniques. Recently, Al-Khabra Council in cooperation with the Tourism Ministry worked on the restoration and rehabilitation. The work included covering the courtyard and introducing glazed windows.
