Akbar At-Taqwa Grand Mosque is a mosque located in Bengkulu City. It serves as the main mosque in the city. The mosque resembles the colonial-era palace building as seen from the park, and is spacious with the arrangement of a garden in the courtyard and a small square in the palace yard.
In addition, there is also a terrace in the form of a long corridor that surrounds the main room. The corridor with a row of round white supporting pillars combined with an iron fence makes the mosque look even more like a palace.
The uniqueness that characterizes this mosque is the round dome designed in three levels like a pyramid dome. The layout inside the mosque is fairly minimal. There are not many ornamental details there. The walls are left plain by relying on the natural colour of the marble that covers it. The inner dome is left plain. What is shown is only a visualization of the material used to make the dome, namely the wood grooves that are given a light cream color.
In the middle of the dome ceiling hangs a classic minimalist style decorative lamp. There are only a number of small light points without being combined with other materials that usually beautify the appearance of the lamp. The mihrab which is the visual center is not decorated much. This part is only distinguished by the dark gray ceramic color in the background and the room that juts in a box shape with a layered room frame style. This classic colonial style is actually quite unique, considering that the mosque was built in 1988, long after the colonial era in Indonesia. However, the combination of classic colonial style with a minimalist touch has proven to be successful in emphasizing the identity of the Akbar At-Taqwa Grand Mosque which is different from other mosques in Indonesia.
