
During the reign of Imam Hasan Ali Shah, the first Nizari Ismaili Jamatkhana in Zanzibar was founded in the 1830s with the appointment of mukhis and kamadias. On August 16, 1905, Imam Sultan Mahomed Shah formally inaugurated the darkhana Jamatkhana.
The mosque includes a prayers chamber, and offices on the ground floor. The mosque’s entry doors are made of wood and include carved panels in the Gujarati style.
