The project involves the restoration of the existing half of a 16th-century mosque and an extension to re-create the missing half that was destroyed by a flood in 1836. Traditional techniques and materials were used where possible, except for the concrete foundations added to the new part. This mosque, originally built by an Uzbeki khan, was partially destroyed in the flood, with one section restored and another remaining in its original state. A minaret was added to the site in the 19th century
