Designed by Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Khalifa, Al-Rass Governorate, the design of Al-Khalifah Rocky Mosque is unique, as it contains no pillars, base or walls. The mosque is designed in a rare architectural style made from natural rocks and distinguished by its natural atmosphere, the mosque itself from exterior side shows the concept clearly which looks like a bunch of organized sands forming a dome like shape.
The entrance has a glass door and visitors should walk from sands land to reach the gate which gives a feeling of harmony with the surrounding. As described by his Majesty Prince Faisal Bin Bandar Bin Abdulaziz the building is well done and unique, it shows the creativity of thinking ,as it is eco friendly, the interior atmosphere could be controlled naturally during winter and summer days without having to use any HVAC systems or other cooling or heating devices, also the lighting amount could be controlled too.
