
The Duisburg Central Mosque is the largest mosque in Germany. It is located in the city of Duisburg in the west of Germany Duisburg Central Mosque was built in 2004 and opened in 2008. It has a prayer room that can fit to 800 prayers, with a gallery that fits 400 prayers which makes it one of the largest mosques around Germany. The building has a floor area of 40 by 28 meters, a minaret height of 34 meters and a 23 meter high silver-coloured dome roof. The interior of the mosque is richly decorated with gold, turquoise, red and white paintings, and the hall is illuminated by golden chandeliers.
The idea of the mosque came from replacing the old makeshift mosque with a new one that supports a meeting place for religions. The mosque is also known as Duisburg Cathedral Mosque, Mosquée Centrale de Duisboug, DITIB-Merkez-Moschee and Zentralmoschee Duisburg-Marxloh.
