Sami
Mousawi was born in Baghdad in 1938 and studied architecture in Germany,
subsequently starting his first practice there. In 1967, he moved his practice
to Manchester, England. He has devoted his work to the understanding of the
nature and meaning of Islamic building tradition, by taking a leading role in
the search for a new identity and language for traditional Islamic
architecture. His approach is to create a contemporary architecture that is
influenced by tradition and cultural heritage, and also benefits from the
advance of technology.
