Privately owned and autonomous, KARPLEN Consultants provides consultancy services. It was born out of the first Sudanese architectural partnership, Abdel Wahab & Abboud, which was founded in 1967 by two of the industry’s pioneers in the fields of private architectural practice, Abdel Wahab Abdel Rahman Salih and Ahmed Abboud El Sherif. The company grew into a group of highly skilled experts in 1973, when it significantly increased its size and registered as the Architects Group, or “AG.” To create KARPLEN Consultants, the first interdisciplinary Sudanese firm, Mohamed Makki Ahmed Makki, a civil and structural engineer, further expanded the firm in 1977 by incorporating Makki Consulting Engineers. One of Sudan’s top urban planners, Awadel Karim Mohamed Ahmed, joined the company in 1981.
