
Founding Imam of AL-Azhar Mosque in Cape Town. Sheigh Abubakr Gamieldien, also known as Imam Akaa, was the son of Imam Kassiem Gamieldien and attended Al Azhar College in Cairo. Up until his death in 1945, he presided as the Masjid’s imam. At the time, Hafith Abdul Mallick taught Shariah studies in the madrassah that the masjied was running.
