Frederick William Martin of North Freedom, Wis., was gently delivered into the hands of God on Monday, July 1, 2013. Fred was born on June 18, 1925, the third child of Lloyd and Millie Martin. He proudly served on the destroyer, the USS O’Bannon, during World War II. After returning from his tour of duty, he began a career in the shoe business, beginning at Hanson’s Shoe Store and retiring as the owner of the Baraboo Bootery. Fred was also well-known for his love of automobiles.

He is survived by his loving companion, Helen Meske, and her family, Pauline (James) Deitrich, Ronnie Dorow and Debbie (Jeff) Alsip. He is further survived by his daughter, Susan (Jeff) Langbecker; sister, Mary (Don) Johnson; and brother-in-law, Richard Hanson, as well as other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis; sisters, Mildred and Aida; as well as Helen’s family members, Edward Dorow, Julius Geisser and Patty Deitrich.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 6, 2013, at Redlin Funeral Home, 401 Madison Ave. in Baraboo, with Pastor Jonathan Tipton officiating. Visitation was be held on Friday, July 5, 2013,  and on Saturday  until the time of services at the funeral home. Burial was held on Monday, July 8, 2013, at Viroqua Cemetery where military rites were conducted.
