The Fluid Motion Architects set up in 2004 by Catherine Spiridonoff and Reza Daneshmir, both graduates of the Iran University of Science and Technology in Tehran, distinguished itself from mainstream architecture from the very beginning, by its difference in outlook and its modern philosophical thinking. Later they added the department of R & D, named iRODE Group, in 2008. The turning point in the professional career of the two architects came in 2008, when they executed their first large-scale project, the Mellat Cineplex — inventing new spaces and creating structures influenced by non-Euclidean geometrical principles. The design brought them to the forefront of Iranian architecture.
“Straightforward”, “devoid of reference” or “show-off”, “challenging” and “complicated” are words often used to describe the characteristics of their unpredictable designs. Their works have been published worldwide, such as in “The Gaurdian” newspaper (October 24, 2017, London), “L’Express” magazine (May & June 2018, Paris), “Architectural Guide, Iran” (2017, London), “Architectural Design” (No. 271, May & June 2012, London), and etc. Moreover, a short video has been produced about one of their most challenging projects, Valiasr Mosque, by “The Associated Press” in 2018. Mastery in creating complex models and producing diagrams, an awareness of the capabilities of contemporary construction technology, all underpin the architectural and visual creativity of this couple, and helped to turn their works into influential oeuvres.
