Biography / Info

Balla Camara is a mason by training, President Houphouët-Boigny assigned him to build the great mosque of Yamoussoukro. Not feeling like taking on such a responsibility, he initially refused, claiming that he did not have the required skills. For this reason, he sent him to Senegal for several months so that he could complete his training in religious masonry and begin construction. The building of the mosque started in 1963 and ended in 1968.
