
The first president of Guinea, Ahmed Sékou Touré (January 9, 1922 – March 26, 1984), was an African statesman and political figure from Guinea. He presided over the country from 1958 until his passing in 1984. Touré was one of the key nationalists from Guinea who worked to free the nation from French rule.
