History


This mosque was designed to be built in 2010, during the time of the Governor of Southeast Sulawesi, Nur Alam. The concept of building this mosque will indeed be built in a unique way. In the middle of Kendari Bay, an artificial island was created as the foundation of the mosque area. The area of ​​the mosque is about 12,692 square meters, consisting of three main buildings, namely: the main mosque building, a closed plaza, and an open plaza.

Now the Al Alam Mosque is the third mosque in the world, as a mosque in the middle of the sea, following mosques in Morocco and Jeddah .

Urban and Architectural


The notable features of the mosque include its location in the middle of Kendari bay, and the unique minarets that shaped like Burj Al Arab in Dubai.

The mosque is located in the middle of Kendari bay and connected by the Al-Alam Mosque street. During high tides, the mosque gives the impression of floating on the ocean. It is considered the third floating mosque in the world after Al-Rahma Mosque in Jeddah and Hassan II Mosque in Casablanca.

Architecturally, the mosque was inspired by the Al-Masjid an-Nabawi of Madina, Saudi Arabia. The four minarets of the mosque are built in the shape of Burj Al Arab luxury hotel in Dubai.
The main dome has a semi-circular base with an opening and closing mechanism of the eight flower petals. The number eight is considered to symbolize Islam as well as the local hero Halu Oleo. The sliding dome mechanism uses technology from Germany. The mosque also employs shading umbrellas in the front yard which function as an additional place of worship when the main area is full.

Al Alam Mosque is an icon of Kendari City which is visited by many local residents and immigrants. The four minarets of this mosque were designed by the architect from South Sulawesi, Mursyid Mustafa.

The location of the Al Alam Mosque in Kendari Bay. To get to this mosque, visitors pass through the mangrove forest. The local government has reclaimed and made roads in and out. This mosque has become an icon of religious tourism in Southeast Sulawesi
