Kassel Central Mosque


History


In March 2001, the preliminary construction request for the meeting center was approved by the city of Kassel. The approval of the building application for the first project section, the mosque including its minaret, and the laying of the foundation stone took place in August 2008. 

Urban and Architectural


the construction project consists of four project phases. The focus is on the first construction phase, the mosque including its minaret. In the second and third phases, the old existing buildings on the property will be gradually demolished and supplemented by the extension buildings of the foundation facility. In the last phase, the interior courtyard and the forecourt are designed.

The mosque has one dome its diameter is 12 m, and has one minaret its height is 32.25 m high.

Description


The objective is the modern interpretation of a traditional Islamic foundation institution (Külliye). The prayer house forms the central building of the new complex, while surrounding outbuildings fulfil numerous social, charitable, academic and commercial functions. These are intended to sustainably promote intercultural dialogue in the district as well as to ensure the intellectual and economic sustainability of the community in the long term.
