Mahmood Mosque
History
The
Mahmood Mosque, named after His Holiness Mirza Mahmood Ahmed, the second caliph
after the founder of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, the Promised Messiah Mirza
Ghulam Ahmad. The mosque was inaugurated on May 13, 2016 by the community's
spiritual leader, Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, the Fifth Caliph (ABA).
The
Mahmood Mosque is completely built through donations from the community's own
members. Even before the inauguration, the Mahmood Mosque has become a landmark
at Yttre ringvägen, near Oxie, Malmö. The Mahmood Mosque and the Ahmadiyya Muslim
Community strive to create respect and understanding between religions and
cultures through various events.
Urban and Architectural
The
mosque is the second Ahmadiyya mosque in Sweden and the largest among them with
an area of 5000 m2 and accommodates over 1200 people. The Mahmood Mosque
Minaret is 24 meters high. The prayer euphoria is heard only inside the mosque
through the loudspeakers. In addition to the mosque building itself, there is
also a large multi-purpose hall, housing for the imam, offices, etc. The
Mahmood Mosque is also accessible for the disabled with a lift to the prayer
halls.
Description
Among other things, arrangements are made: Friday prayer with Friday
sermon every week in both Swedish and Urdu. Open house where the public is welcome
to visit and get a tour of Malmö's new mosque. Free study visits for, among
other things, school groups. Interreligious symposium where representatives
from different religions and beliefs illuminate a selected topic the imam who
works in the Mahmood Mosque is called Rizwan Afzal.
