Al-Istiqlal Grand Mosque Murung Raya
History
The construction of the Murung Raya Al Istiqlal Great Mosque originated from the idea of religious leaders in Murung Raya Regency who wanted to build a large, magnificent place of worship that could accommodate thousands of Muslims in Murung Raya Regency to perform their prayers. In addition, the construction of this grand mosque will also be used as a center for Islamic religious education and information in Murung Raya Regency.
In 2007, planning for the construction of this mosque began. The basic concept agreed upon is to build a great mosque, which can provide a safe, calm and peaceful feel. The construction of the Al-Istiqlal Grand Mosque began in 2008 to 2012 with funds sourced from the Murung Raya Regency APBD in the General Section of the Murung Raya Regency Regional Secretariat.
Al-Istiqlal Grand Mosque was inaugurated by DR. Ir Willy. M. Yoseph, MM on July 2 2013 and managed by the Management Board which was stipulated by Murung Raya Regent Decree Number: 188.45/538/2013 dated September 23 2013 concerning the Management Board of the Al-Istiqlal Mosque Puruk Cahu Term of Service 2013–2018.
Urban and Architectural
The architectural style of the Al-Istiqlal Grand Mosque was initially not bound by a particular mosque construction style. His designs flowed while studying the many arts and architecture of large mosques, such as mosques in the Middle East and other grand mosques throughout the archipelago. Until finally, the architectural style that was formed in the process of building this mosque was an Arabic architectural style with a local touch typical of the Dayak community which can be seen from the color patterns on the dome of this mosque.
Murung Raya Al-Istiqlal Great Mosque has a building area of 5,929 m². This grand mosque can accommodate as many as 7,000 to 8,000 worshipers. This mosque has four minarets on each side. This mosque also has five domes with the main dome located in the middle and the other four domes above each of the mosque's minarets
