Sidi Brahim Mosque
History
Sultan Abu Hammu Moussa II constructed this burial mosque in 1363–4/765 AH. It is named after the revered figure Sidi Brahim al-Masmoudi, who was buried nearby in 1401/804 AH. The Zayyanid dynasty afterwards used the territory around the mosque as a royal cemetery.
Urban and Architectural
This mosque's floor plan resembles that of Sid El Haloui and Sidi Bu Medyan. The five naves of the prayer hall are parallel to the wall of the qibla. However, the décor in the mosque of Sidi Brahim is much more restrained and just includes the dome before the mihrab.
Description
In 1993, the courtyard arches collapsed, necessitating extensive repairs that continued until 2003, when the mosque was once again made accessible to the general population.
