Al-Saoud Mosque and Library
History
Enfa, a wealthy suburb, is a region of upper-class homes with few public or communal structures. The predominant kind of housing is individual villas with considerable landscaping; however, a few townhouses or condominiums are also being built along Enfa's eastern border, connecting the area to Casablanca's more open-air feel. The concept of the project was inspired by the Saudi Royalty's practice of constructing miniature mosques next to their homes wherever they stay.
Urban and Architectural
In Enfa 1979, a tiny mosque with a 400-person capacity was initially constructed next to the Prince's vacation home. The Prince built a another, far larger mosque with a seating capacity of 5000 because the previous mosque was used to capacity.
Description
The client and the architect both agreed on the concept of a religious and cultural complex, which was then expanded by experts into a plan for a religious, educational, and research center with a concentration on the humanities in Islam. To generate income and sustain the facility, housing and communal facilities were added.
