Mosque Abuzar

Urban and Architectural

The mosque is located among residential buildings in a complex with the Nurutdin madrasah on a site surrounded by a metal openwork fence. It belongs to the type of a domed mosque with separate entrances and floor halls for men and women and an axial location of a three-tiered minaret on the north side. The general composition of the mosque is formed by a rectangular building with a flat roof, an octagonal hall volume under a low keeled dome and a three-tiered minaret under a high thin tent. The one-story building with a basement has separate entrances for men and women on the western and eastern facades. At the vestibules in the women's and men's halves there are a wardrobe, a room for ablutions and bathrooms. Down the stairs we go down to the women's, square in terms of hall. We go up the single-flight stairs to the men's hall.

The walls of both halls in the interior are cut through by rectangular supports with curvilinear ends supporting a gentle dome. From the men's vestibule we enter the minaret's spiral staircase. It leads to the third tier - Azanchi skylight with a circular balcony. Tapering upwards, the stepped-tiered silhouette of the minaret is associated with the forms of the Bulgar architecture. The walls of the main volume and the minaret are covered with pink-beige shell rock. Cornices and plinth lined with gray granite. Panels, narrow windows and niches with triangular endings, lancet niches of entrances give the mosque an oriental flavor. A modern Muslim religious building with a traditional composition and motifs of Bulgar architecture in a three-dimensional solution.

Description

The composition of the mosque attracts attention with its not too complex, but at the same time, rather multifaceted design. It has a medium height, a rounded dome and a high three-level minaret, located on the north side of the building.

The architectural ensemble of the Abuzar mosque is created by an external rectangular base and an internal polyhedron of the central hall. Separate entrances are always open for men and women, which can be accessed from the western and eastern facades, respectively. Each prayer hall has its own wardrobe, bathrooms and rooms for wudu - small ablution.

The exterior finish is made of light pink shell rock, and the basement walls are covered with gray granite. Also, traditional Bulgarian motifs were used in the design, which can be seen in the decoration of door and window openings.

The interior of the mosque is characterized by modesty and asceticism. Entering the men's room, you can see a fairly simple wall decoration with marble stone and natural wood. Along the walls, at the level of the second floor, there is a spacious balcony. The decoration is completed by a beautiful crystal chandelier and lamps on the walls, made in the form of medieval candlesticks.

Despite the fact that the mosque does not have a high minbar where the imam could rise above the parishioners, every Friday, during the Friday prayer, which is obligatory for all Muslims, very interesting and informative sermons are read here, telling about the life of the Prophets and their companions.
