Mosque of Ufa

History

The first cathedral mosque of Ufa is one of the main Muslim mosques of the Republic of Bashkortostan and Ufa. It was built in 1830 by the decree of Alexander I and the petition of Mufti Gabdrakhimov Gabdessalyam. At the mosque there was a madrasah "Gusmania" and a Russian-Bashkir 2-class school.

The two-storey building was quite modest in architectural terms, so it was periodically rebuilt. In the 1890s, the mosque was reconstructed to expand the prayer hall. According to the project of the Ufa architect I. Myalov, a spacious annex appeared in the form of a triangular portico on 4 columns.

In 2013, the mosque experienced a rebirth. The building was repainted white, the entrance group was remade, gazebos for parishioners and a fountain appeared on the territory of the mosque. A hotel for visiting guests was organized in a three-story building, designed for 10-15 people. It is planned to open a store dedicated to Muslim culture and religion.

Among the people, the First Cathedral Mosque was called "Tukaevskaya". There are two versions of this name. According to the first, the mosque is named after the famous Bashkir family of religious figures Tukaevs from Sterlibashevo. In the 19th century, the Sterlibashevsky Madrasah was the center of Muslim science in Russia. According to the second version, the mosque is named after its location on Tukaev Street.

Urban and Architectural

Classicism style architecture.

The building was stone, with one minaret. It has been rebuilt several times.

Description

The ground floor was traditionally occupied by warehouses, shops and other utility premises (there is a museum here today). On the first floor, however, there was a vestibule and two prayer halls, separated by a thick transverse wall. It was the very wall that supported the minaret, which was destroyed during the years of atheist policy.
