The mosque is a gift from Arsen Kanokov, made by him even before his appointment as president of Kabardino-Balkaria. Architect - Vladislav Osanov. The prayer hall of the Cathedral Mosque accommodates about 1000 parishioners.

The offices of the Republican Spiritual Administration of Muslims are also located here. Under its auspices, there are 120 religious organizations that profess the so-called traditional Islam - the teachings of Abu Hanifa.

 Structural solution:

Ventilated facade system with facade cassette cladding (800 sq.m.)

 Construction

The preliminary design of the mosque belongs to the architect Andrey Asanov. His work was selected in a competition held by the administration of the city of Nalchik together with the Kabardino-Balkarian organization of the Union of Architects of Russia.

The construction of a new mosque in the city of Nalchik began in early 2000 on the site of the former Yunost cinema. In the construction of interior and exterior finishes, local stone and artificial materials imitating stone were mainly used. Officially opened on May 20, 2004.

 Characteristic

The mosque has a pronounced regional character. The building was built in a strictly symmetrical monoblock. Two minarets about 30 meters high overlook the main entrance.

A square building at the level of the first floor, on the second floor it transforms into an octahedron, the central part of which is crowned with a dome. The height of the building to the top of the dome is 21 meters. The total area of the building is 1700 square meters.

The main facade, in accordance with urban planning standards, is located parallel to Shogentsukov Street, while it turned out to be at an angle of 45 degrees towards Mecca. But according to the Islamic canon, the prayer hall should be turned towards Mecca, and this condition was met due to the reorientation of the second floor.

There are two entrances to the mosque - the main entrance from the side of Shogentsukov Street for the staff of the Spiritual Administration, and from the side of the square the entrance for parishioners. Adjacent to the lobby of the main entrance are two blocks of rooms separately for men and women, including a hall-cloakroom and a room for ablution.

The mosque has two prayer halls. Men's - located on the second floor, and women's - located on the back left corner of the first floor.

Also in the cathedral mosque is the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kabardino-Balkaria.
