Mosque Nurd-Kamal

History

The northernmost mosque in Russia. The Norilsk mosque "Nurd-Kamal" is listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the northernmost in the world. The building of unusual architecture has been decorating this city for almost 18 years. The mosque was built at his own expense by businessman Mitkhad Bikmeev, a Norilsk resident and an ethnic Tatar. He gave her the name "Nurd-Kamal" in honor of his parents: father Nuritdin and mother Gainikamal.

Urban and Architectural

The mosque is made in the shape of an emerald star. Each of its faces is separated by a white decorative column and has four unusual windows (rectangular at the bottom and triangular with a border at the top.

The thirty-meter minaret deserves special attention. The fact is that they are usually made round in cross section, but Nur-Kamal has a square one. This is because most of the year it is very cold in Norilsk, and strong winds are constantly blowing. Taking into account also frequent and heavy snowfalls, it was decided to make the dome of the mosque sloping, which made it possible to minimize unpleasant consequences. Instead of a foundation, the mosque rests on piles, like most buildings in Norilsk.

The mosque itself has two floors: on the first floor there is a madrasah, and on the second floor there is a light prayer hall of a round shape, whose walls are painted by hand. The walls are painted with bright blue paint, and the domes of the main building and the minaret are made of gold.

Description

A 30-meter minaret deserves special attention.
