Historical mosque of Moscow
History
In 1823 receive permission from the capital's governor-general, Prince D.V. Golitsyn for the construction of a stone mosque.
The construction of the mosque was carried out on the site of the merchant of the 1st guild Nazarbay Khoshalov, who specially bought for Muslims the property on Bolshaya Tatarskaya street (modern address: Bolshaya Tatarskaya street, house 28) and then transferred it to the community as a waqf. The original appearance of the building was a little like a mosque and did not stand out from the neighboring mansions.
It was this mosque that during the 19th century had the status of the Cathedral (since the 20th century, the mosque in Vypolzov Lane, built in 1904, has been called the Cathedral). Today it is called "Historical" (Tatar. "Tarihi mosque", Arabic. "al-Masjid at-Tarihi"; the term appeared in the early 1990s).
In September 1915, with the money of Sadek Salikhovich Yerzin, a stone building of the madrasah was built near the mosque, which today serves as an administrative building.
In 1923-1925, the world-famous theologian Musa Bigiev taught the fundamentals of Islam in this mosque.
