Grand Mosque of Bobo-Dioulasso

History

The current location of the mosque was part of the Kingdom of Sia at the end of the 19th century. The Kénédougou Kingdom's hostility at the time put the kingdom in danger. The monarch of Kénédougou Kingdom, Tieba Traoré, organized his men to advance against Sia's capital. To protect his realm, the King of Sia was racing to get support. He soon met with a local imam who was eager to assist, Almamy Sidiki Sanou. In exchange, Sanou asked the King of Sia to build a mosque. The Kénédougou Kingdom was stopped about 30 kilometers from Sia's capital, and the Grand Mosque of Bobo-Dioulasso was eventually built.

Urban and Architectural

Mud brick, horizontal beams, and projected wooden beams were used to build the mosque. It has two tower minarets. The prayer hall is divided into two sections that were built at various times. The prayer hall's older part, which has seven transverse aisles, is found near the eastern end. The more recent part has two additional transverse aisles and is situated at the western end.
