The Moroccan Marinid emperors erected the mosque in 1339. Eight years after the mosque, where Ibn Khaldun had previously taught, the madrasa was established. The sultans' lodging during their visit to the mosque was the Dar al-Sultan palace, which was built in the lowest part of the compound. The Sidi al-Haloui Mosque was constructed in 1353 and was based heavily on it.

Urban and Architectural

The complex includes a mosque, tomb, madrasa, and hamam, among other religious structures. The mosque's main entryway is comparable to that of other Moorish buildings from Cordoba to Kairouan. The gallery of plaster paintings is accessible from the entrance. The dome has muqarnas on its top. It goes on to the stairs that mirror those at Toledo's Puerta del Sol. The bronze-decorated wooden doors open to a prayer hall and sahn with a fountain in the center that is flanked by passageways.
