in Nouakchott, Mauritania, is a mosque. It is situated just west of the Chamber of Commerce and southwest of the Presidential Palace. [1] Saudi money was used to erect the mosque. 

Bouddah Ould Bousseyri served as the imam of the Saudi Mosque for many years. He was a strong ally of the Mauritanian government, a follower of Sunni Islam, and a major player in the apolitical Islamist movement.


Ahmedou Ould Lemrabet, the current imam, is a proponent of political salafism and the rule of law.
