King Salman Mosque
History
The mosque was designed to mark the 50th anniversary of the Maldives' independence. Work on the mosque's construction got under way in 2018. The mosque was supposed to open in 2021, but this was postponed because the building is still under construction. On, the mosque unofficially opened for prayer. The announcement of the official opening is pending.
Urban and Architectural
Five minarets, which stand in for the five pillars of Islam, flank the six-story mosque edifice. The structure doesn't have a typical dome. Instead, a Bedouin desert tent-like building in the shape of a dome has been built.
Description
A multipurpose hall, an auditorium, classrooms, and a library would also be included in the mosque.
