Kampung Baru Jamek Mosque

History

In about the end of 1880 there were seven villages which were located close to each other. The unification of the villages has been done step by step because each resident wants the administration to be led by themselves. For example, Kampung Masjid became part of Kampung Baru in 1880, Kampung Periok in 1890. Kampung Hujung Pasir joined the Ikatan Perkampungan in 1900. In the following years, it was clear that the population was increasing.

News of the prosperity of the residents of Kampung Baru has been made public, especially by traders who commute from Kuala Lumpur to Klang. So people of Javanese descent do not want to be left behind to earn a living in Kampung Baru. In 1906, many Javanese migrated to Kampung Baru in a place called Kampung Paya. In 1914, Kampung Periok was accepted within Kampung Baru with the division of land lots for settlement purposes.

This resettlement arrangement was handed over to the Government by the Town Planning unit in 1929.

The village which originally had 12 houses on the banks of the Klang River on the East side in the early 1900s, thirty years later has become the focus of immigrants from Ulu Selangor, Kajang and Klang. For example, in 1930 in Kampung Baru there were 554 houses with a total population of 2600 people. This number increased to 615 houses and a total population of 3562 people. As of May 1935, 750 lots had been subdivided along with temporary ownership.
