Emir Sultan Mosque
History
The Emir Sultan Mosque on Cleeland St. was originally a church that had been converted to the Islamic Centre and mosque in 1991. In 2011, the original structure was overhauled into a beautiful mosque with a wider prayer hall and available men's and women's wuduk quarters and a multipurpose hall next door.
Urban and Architectural
The mosque has a main central blue dome and an Ottoman minaret. Its inspired by Ottoman mosques and is located in a dense residential neighbourhood in Dandenong, a Western suburb of Melbourne.
Description
Emir Sultan Mosque aims to serve the growing Muslim population in Dandenong and surrounding regions. We strive to provide the community with high quality services, especially for our youth. Interestingly the cost of the construction was the donation of the crowd including a brick charity project that was also accompanied by family members, relatives and friends who visited our house at that time.
