_The relationship between architecture and symmetry in Persian architecture – a case study of Sheikh Loṭfollāh mosque in Isfahan

Description

Symmetry is the perfect sample of balance and stability. Based on this important principle, historical buildings during their living time achieved a completed level of stability. This feature in the balanced relation, causes unity and stability, even in part or in whole and even in architecture or in structure and ornamentations. Shaykh-Lutf-Allah masque as a complete type of masque from the Safavid era in Iran also follows this pattern. Past researches about this building only descript the building and did not study the building durability based on symmetry. The Research question is: is there any relation between symmetry and the build of Shaykh-Lutf-Allah masque? And if it is, how this symmetry sample’s shows of? we use a qualitative research methodology and Library Studies as the Methods of data collection.in the case study, we rely on field study and then data analysis. research findings show that the mosque architectural template following symmetric patterns. Symmetry can be found in plan, Structure, facade, and ornamentations. This symmetry appears as a reflection symmetry, rotation symmetry, and similitude and causes the stability of the building. Symmetry and as general geometry is one of the most important design Tips. And for finding a good performance from building, we should use suitable and stronger geometry. But the main question is what is geometry and symmetry and how it can be used in buildings. in this paper, we are trying to find the answer in Persian monuments especially in Shaykh-Lutf-Allah masque.
