Ghalwar is a village located four kilometers west of the Old City of Herat on the ancient route that starts at the Iraqi Gate of the Old City and heads westwards towards Kohsan and Nishapur. In this village one can find the historic mosque, reportedly built in the 9th century, and renovated with tile decoration in mid 15th century, the contemporary restoration of which is documented in this article.
