Mosque: between the art and the divine. This article has the goal to analyze the relationship between art and mosques. It begins with a presentation on the heritage of architecture and some Arabian practices in Brazil brought by the Portuguese conquerors, some of them still present today. The article addresses the concept of art in Islam and also traces a historical view about the mosque, considering its cultural aspects and its importance within Islam. Fi- nally, the article pays attention, in summarized terms, to the “Mos- que Brazil”, the first mosque built in Latin America, opened in 1929 with reduced dimensions, located in its beginning at Mooca Street and since 1956 to the present with its location at State Avenue, in the city of São Paulo.
