The text focuses on the study of Muslim communities in Bogota. As such, reference is made to the trends of religious thought that distinguish them within the existing diversity in the Islamic World, but especially emphasis is made on their activities, daily practices, forms of organization and relationship with the social environment of the city. The work is the result of the study carried out by the Line of History and Comparative Study of Religions of the Center for Theological and Religious Studies of the Universidad del Rosario, among the Muslims of the city during the years 2007 – 2008. The text, which is addressed to a wide public, not specialized in the subject, offers an introductory base to Islam as a religious, social and cultural fact, as well as to the way in which Muslims live their daily life, in order to prepare the readers to adequately understand the details of the study carried out. Likewise, the phenomenon of Muslim communities in the city is framed within a historical translation, but also within some axes of influence that relate them to other regions of the world and the continent. Finally, it describes the way in which being Muslim has become an option for many Bogotanos, who do not consider that Colombian and Islamic values are necessarily incompatible, but that they can lead to the constitution of an identity as Muslims that enriches the already complex Colombian social reality.
